Dairy Unit 1 (8-10) Junior Projects
This project is for member’s ages 8-10 years old. This project is designed for those members who want to learn more about the dairy industry. Members usually start with a heifer calf or yearling heifer. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Obtain and raise a dairy animal
- Project animals may be either grade or purebred if they are heifers. Bull calves must be registered
- Parts of a dairy cow
- Learn how to care for a dairy animal a
- Learn how to take care of equipment
- Learn about various dairy breeds
- Learn about the cost to raise a calf
- Learn how the dairy industry affects everyone world-wide
- Learn about the nutritional requirements of dairy cows
