4-H Outdoor Adventure Project
Do you like to hike or camp? Then this is the project for you. Progress from day hikes to overnight camping trips to finally planning an extended backpack expedition as you make your way through the three units.
Step 3: Select Your Project
Unit 1 Hiking Trails
This unit is for members ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Learn Hiking Essentials
- Learn how to plan a healthy hike
- Learn the Leave No Trace behind ethics
- Learn about finding shelter and observing nature
Unit 2 Camping Adventures
This unit is for members ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Learn about Camping Gear
- How to find the right camping spot
- Camping Cuisine
- Learn how to care for nature
Unit 3 Backpacking Expeditions
This unit is for members ages 8-18. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Learn to plan a healthy and safe backpacking trip
- Apply the Leave No Trace ethics when backpacking
- Learn to find your way
- Train for your trip

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements
All exhibits will consist of the following:
- A completed manual and e-Record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook, including these items: Appropriate sections in the manual completed and other items or attachments related to the activities in the manual.
- A display board displaying information related to activities in project manual. You may use diagrams, drawings, charts, and photos. Label and use captions to make your display as educational as possible. The standardized display board size 4' x 3' is to be used for 4-H projects.
List the day, month, and year for the date of completed activities on page 4.
