Unit 6 :: Pictorial Carving

This unit is for member ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Figure carve a portrait or scene on leather.
  • Mount or frame pictures and portraits suitable for wall hanging.
  • Clocks are not included in this unit.
  • Practice skills learned in previous units
  • Make one or more pictures, scenes or portraits
  • Keep a record of project costs and experiences

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements

General Exhibit Requirements:

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units

  1. Put name, age, and county on back of exhibit board or on tag attached to individual exhibit articles.
  2. Indicate in record whether articles are made from kit or if self-cut and designed by the member.
  3. A set means a number of things of the same kind that belong, or are used together, (i.e. six matching coasters, belt and buckle with matching designs, etc.)
  4. Advanced leathercraft members may exhibit in more than one of the classes, provided the member is enrolled in and has completed the requirements of the unit. Example: Units 4-7.

Unit 6 :: Pictorial Carving

Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. One framed or mounted carved leather picture (scene or portrait, not clock) or a matching set, suitable for wall hanging. The article may be left natural color or it may be stained or colored according to any of the methods taught in previous units.
