Unit 5 :: Coloring and Shading
This unit is for member ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Learn more about solid and other forms of dyeing and shading on an advanced carved project.
- Practice skills used in previous units.
- Make one or more articles using skills learned
- Keep a record of project costs and experiences

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units
- Put name, age, and county on back of exhibit board or on tag attached to individual exhibit articles.
- Indicate in record whether articles are made from kit or if self-cut and designed by the member.
- A set means a number of things of the same kind that belong, or are used together, (i.e. six matching coasters, belt and buckle with matching designs, etc.)
- Advanced leathercraft members may exhibit in more than one of the classes, provided the member is enrolled in and has completed the requirements of the unit. Example: Units 4-7.
Unit 5 :: Coloring and Shading
Exhibit will consist of the following:
- Completed e-record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
- One completed article or matching set, other than a matching picture, which demonstrates advanced carving skills and which is colored by solid-color dyeing, block dyeing, or shade dyeing. The design can be either conventional or realistic carving.
