We have a great opportunity for our 4-H members to have a significant impact on the statewide 4-H program! We recently received good news from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science that a proposal we submitted highlighting science, engineering and technology (SET) had been accepted.

Photo by Michael GarayOur proposal includes plans for a museum exhibit of 20 high quality lightning photography images taken by Colorado 4-H members. The exhibit will be on display from October through December 2009. Following the exhibit at the museum, the 20 framed images will be part of a two year traveling gallery to help promote SET in 4-H. With the acceptance of that proposal we now need your help to meet that commitment.

To aid in this goal, the State 4-H office is offering a $100 reward to 20 4-H members whose lightning photograph is selected to be part of this traveling exhibit. Details, including submission requirements, a lightning photography guide, and an informational poster, are attached to this letter. This information can also be found on the Colorado 4-H website.

The lightning photography exhibit will be in place just in time for the 2009 Colorado 4-H Gala which will be held at the museum on October 3. This exhibit will be just one of the SET highlighted 4-H projects at the Gala that night.

Please encourage the photography leaders in your county to promote this opportunity. We also ask you to share this exciting news with your interested intermediate and senior-aged 4-H members.

It’s not every day that 20 Colorado 4-H members will have a chance to display their work in a major museum such as this. With your help, I am confident that this cutting edge display of 4-H member’s lightning photography skills will become a reality. If we can make this happen it will be an impressive promotional opportunity for the Colorado 4-H program.

Please contact Connie Cecil if you have any questions about the lightning photography activity and this traveling gallery of images.
