4-H Enrollment Information

Program year — The 4-H program year begins on October 1 and concludes on September 30 the following year.

Membership policies — Any person, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, religion, disability or national origin, may enroll as a 4-H member. Colorado 4-H membership is open to youths between the ages of 5 to 18 by December 31 of the current year. Youth ages 5-7 years of age are considered Cloverbuds.

Cross-county membership — Membership cannot be held simultaneously in more than one county or state. Members can participate in only one county fair per enrollment year.

Project enrollment — All 4-H members must be enrolled in at least one project. A member may add or delete project enrollments, check your local Extension office for deadlines.

Statewide projects/activities — The 4-H projects listed in this handbook are offered in most of the counties in Colorado. Please contact your county Extension agent for more information about projects or activities.

County projects/activities — Some counties offer additional projects of local interest. Check with your county to see what is available. Counties provide the materials and training guides for these projects and they may vary from area to area depending on local resources and needs.

Events and activities — Youth competing in state, district and/or county events and activities must be 8 to 18 years of age by December 31 of the current year. See specific state contest packet information for additional details.
