Western Regional 4-H Volunteer Forum - 2011 Update

WRLF is going to be different in 2011. . . how different? The Washington State 4-H Advisory Board has decided to host the 2011 Western Regional 4-H Forum as a cruise! Yes, it’s true, we’ll be ‘CRUISING to EXCELLENCE.' I think they’ll be leaving from Seattle, cruising the Alaska coast and returning to Seattle. More details will be available as the adventure unfolds. — Dale Leidheiser

USDA Offers Agriculture Youth Loans

Farm Service Agency (FSA) makes operating loans to individual rural youths to finance income-producing, agriculture-related projects of modest size in connection with their participation in 4-H clubs, Future Farmers of America, and similar organizations.

Each project must be part of an organized and supervised program of work. The project must be planned and operated with the help of the organization advisor, produce sufficient income to repay the loan, and provide the youth with practical business and educational experience in agriculture-related skills.

To apply or learn more about youth loans or other loan programs, please contact your local USDA Service Center at www.fsa.usda.gov. — Ellen Butler

Ford Motor Company donated a 2008 F-150 Super Cab to the Colorado 4-H Foundation as the grand prize for their annual fundraising campaign. The truck, valued at nearly $33,000, will be equipped with popular options, including a flex-fuel engine allowing it run on regular gasoline or E-85 ethanol. It will be given away this fall at Metro Area Supports 4-H (M*A*S*H) Gala on October 11, 2008, to be held at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver.
"Ford and 4-H share similar values," said Michael Grammes, Denver Region Marketing Manager for Ford Motor Company. "Both organizations stress the importance of education, environmental stewardship, diversity and community involvement, and we at Ford are honored to be able to support the members of 4-H."

Raffle tickets to win the 2008 F-150 are just $20. The funds raised will be split between county 4 H programs and the Colorado 4-H Foundation. Tickets will be sold at all major state-wide 4-H activities, county fairs, the Colorado State Fair and other events.

"Through 4-H students learn how to be diligent workers and upstanding members of their communities; two qualities which are vital in today's society," commented Gary Small, executive director of the Colorado 4-H Foundation. "We teach life skills through hands on learning activities and projects to over 100,000 youth throughout the state. We are tremendously excited to have Ford Motor Company's support of our organization."
